Description
A light yet engaging concert work for trombone ensemble, “Divertimento for Trombone Quartet,” is presented in three movements:
I. High Noon & Low Brass
A tongue-in-cheek homage to Western film music, especially “Spaghetti Westerns,” in particular the slow, almost funereal brass music that usually accompanies the showdown between the main characters.
II. Cotillon
Inspired by 18th-century dance music, a galant melody with variations.
III. Pirate Song
After the pirates’ chant, “Fifteen Men on a Dead Man’s Chest,” from Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.
